Double Security = Double Happy Users
One word; Security – it is and always will be one of the biggest concerns in the world of technology. Even going back to Maslow’s hierarchy of needs – security is the second most essential need after all of the basics. Good thing that Instagram realised this and doubled up on their security features. How have they doubled it? – well now, Instagram users have a two-factor authentication system.
The company recently hit 400 million users (not to mention lots of accounts that are followed by millions of users), so this is a highly logical move. High profile individuals like actors, sports stars, politicians and government officials have their own Instagram accounts. Therefore it’s needless to say, that more security measures were greatly needed.
So how does this all work? Well, the two-factor authentication adds an extra layer of security for your account’s protection. When you want to reset your password, you’re going to have a code sent to your phone. Don’t be surprised; this practice is already used by other social media giants like Facebook, Twitter and even Snapchat.
Tech Crunch were first to point out the update, and now it looks like Instagram are beginning to roll it out slowly. If you haven’t received it yet, don’t worry – it’s on its way! So thanks Instagram for doubling down to double the security of our accounts and keeping us safe from hackers.
P.S. Instagram have also updated iOS and Android apps to introduce the multi-account login feature.
